Anne McCaskill

Anne McCaskill has over twenty years of experience as a trade policy specialist and trade negotiator with the Canadian government.

Her firm, the Somerset policy group, specializes in international trade and government relations.

During her time in government, Ms. McCaskill gained extensive experience in trade policy, negotiations, and political and public affairs. Key government posts were with The Privy Council Office (1996-1997), where she served as the Director of Operations, Priorities and Planning, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) where she had a range of assignments over a period of ten years. While at DFAIT, Ms. McCaskill served as the head of the U.S. Trade and Economic Policy Division (1995-1996), where she was responsible for an agenda of issues with the United States relating to trade in services, investment, telecommunications, and intellectual property rights.

In addition, she served at the Canadian Mission to the WTO in Geneva (1991-1995), where she was chief negotiator during the Uruguay Round of negotiations for the intellectual property agreement, TRIPS, and was involved in the negotiation of the services agreement (GATS).

Ms. McCaskill also served as Senior Policy Advisor to the Honourable Pat Carney when she was Minister of International Trade.
